King of the Ring

Yesterday, I spent way too much time looking at old wrestling footage on youtube. It got me thinking, who is the best wrestler of all time? My favorite wrestler growing up was the Ultimate Warrior, although he turned into a joke (much like my other childhood idol, Jose Canseco). Hulk Hogan and Stone Cold transformed wrestling while they were in their prime, but Hogan lacked wrestling skills and Stone Cold was the same thing over and over againt. The Rock left too prematurely. By far, the best wrestler stands 6'10", weighs 295, and hails from Death Valley.

The Undertaker is responsible for inaugurating the Casket Match, the Boiler Room Brawl, the Buried Alive Match, Hell in a Cell, the Inferno Match, and the Punjabi Prison Match (think Hell in a Cell with bamboo). He has survived some of the worst storylines (the American Badass biker, having his wife stalked, Ministry of Darkness). He has fought two giants (Giant Gonzales and the Great Khali), his brother, and even his fake self. He has won 1 Royal Rumble (in which he was the first winner to enter the Rumble last), 6 world titles, and all 16 Wrestlemania matches.

He also has the best entrance ever.

He can levitate.

And he locked my childhood idol in a casket.

He has dominated since the day he debuted.

I remember as a kid wrestling with my brother, and I'd let my brother knock me flat on the ground so I could rise straight up like the Undertaker used to. I would also pretend I was walking on the ropes while holding my brother's arm, only to jump off and smash it. Oh, and it was always a pleasure to inflict the tombstone piledriver on him.

His entrance still gives me goosebumps.

Wrestling with your sibiling used to be fun and innocent. I used to try putting my sisters in a sharpshooter. Those stupid backyard extreme wrestlers and the kid who killed the 9 mo. old with a wrestling maneuver ruined it.

So do you agree he's the best ever?

Best ever. Hands down.

You're checking the blogs same time as me.

Actually one minute before you. Or are you three minutes before me??? Hmmm...

But I'm still thinking about the "greatest ever".

Razor Ramon will always be my favorite. I have a soft spot for the "Bad Guy".

But the Undertaker, I can recognize, as the greatest ever.

Okay, so I decided to list the top 10 wrestlers of my generation (none of the really old guys) that stand out to me.

1. Undertaker
2. Bret "The Hitman" Hart
3. Shawn Michaels
4. Yokozuna
5. Razor Ramon/Scott Hull
6. Diesel/Kevin Nash
7. 1-2-3 Kid
8. Triple H
9. Macho Man Randy Savage
10. Bam Bam Bigelow

I know I'm leaving off Triple H, The Rock, Stone Cold, Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, and Doink the Clown (kidding)...but those 10 were the guys I most enjoyed watching.

I definitely agree with Bret Hart #2. He wasn't the most entertaining, but his matches were always great because he was a great wrestler. I was really surprised by the Yokozuna pick. Here's my top 10:

1. Undertaker
2. Bret Hart
3. Shawn Michaels
4. Ultimate Warrior
5. Diesel
6. Triple H
7. Razor Ramon
8. The Rock
9. Mr. Perfect
10. Stone Cold

See, Yokozuna was just a force when he was around. There was nobody like him. He was 10 times bigger than the fattest fat guy. And the Bonzai Drop...awesome. Mr. Fuji and him, you just loved to hate them! A great villain.

Interesting that our top-3 are the same...I'd thought the Warrior would be a little higher for you =). The only surprise is Mr. Perfect at number 9...I always thought his moves were weak. Perhaps he just wasn't my style.

Thank you for including Razor. Much appreciated =).
