Huh?

Can someone who watched the game explain this?

Bench:
Raymar Morgan, F 9min 0-4FG 0-4FT 1OREB 1REB 1AST 1STL 0BLK 1TO 2PF 0PTS
Delvon Roe, F 13min 0-2FG 5PF 0PTS

In Draymond Green and Derrick Nix I trust.

Nix: 15MIN 14REB 11PTS
(You're right, though, Mike - he needs to improve FT (1-5)

In other news...
"Curtis Granderson remains the talk of the town -- actually, the talk of the majors.
Newsday's Ken Davidoff reported Friday that the Angels are the latest team said to be in communications with Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski about a potential deal for the centerfielder. The Yankees, who have outfield openings with Hideki Matsui and Johnny Damon as free agents, quickly leapt to the top of the list coming out of the GM meetings this week. But Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune reported Friday "there's no question the Cubs have interest in the homegrown Granderson" who is from Chicago. Rogers said, however, it was unclear what kind of talks the Cubs have had with Dombrowski, who would not confirm reports about any specific players."

What the heck is this??? Why are they going to get rid of Granderson? Apparently, young, homegrown talent isn't important anymore. Did Illitch decide he wants to stop investing in the Tigers? Ooo - maybe we can get an aging, slow, overpriced LF Johnny Damon in FA instead!! I don't care who the Tigers get rid of except for Granderson. Just like Tayshaun with the Pistons - feel free to clean house, but don't touch his room.

Raymar Morgan made a surprising appearance for Michigan State, playing on a sprained right ankle that was expected to keep him out after he missed two exhibition games.

The senior forward was welcomed by a rousing ovation when he entered the game with 14:39 left in the first half. Morgan was 0 for 4 from the field and 0 for 4 from the line in 9 minutes before resting in the second half.

"Raymar really wanted to play," Izzo said. "The ankle is not ready and it probably won't be for another two weeks, but it'll be more ready Tuesday than it was today.

"He didn't re-injure it, but it was getting stiff at halftime."

Ok, there's Raymar's excuse. Where's Roe's??

It's in the very next paragraph.

"Chris Allen and Delvon Roe also returned for the Spartans after missing their preseason game against Grand Valley State. Allen had a groin strain and Roe a concussion.

'We had everybody in uniform, but we didn't have everybody back,' Izzo said. 'I don't think we're near where we're going to be, but we have to get better or we're going to be in trouble.'"

"There is no concrete evidence suggesting the Tigers are in serious trade talks regarding Granderson.

That isn’t to say Granderson won’t be traded. He’s not untouchable -- few players in the game are. It’s just it’s unlikely to happen."

I was surprised that Raymar and Roe played because what I had read earlier in the week was there was "no chance" Raymar was going to play, and just a "slim probability" Roe would play. Maybe if we were up against UNC or Texas I'd see Izzo pushing them out there, but FGCU? Ehhh...just let them get their rest. Green, Nix, and Sherman held the fort down adequately down low.

With Granderson it's not that the Tigers want to get rid of him...but they may have no choice. It's easy to say get rid of the others, but look who the others are: Dontrelle Willis, Nate Robertson, Jeremy Bonderman, Maglio Ordonez, etc. Nobody wants those guys, and they contribute very little to our team, but they make up the majority of our payroll.

It's a transition phase for the Tigers, and it's going to take a few years. We need to trim payroll in the immediate future (and that means tough decisions, like trading Granderson), while locking up irreplacable pieces (Verlander). Long term we need to shed the contracts of our vets without taking any new contracts that are hefty/bad.

I think what makes me more sad is hearing Edwin Jackson's name. He's young...I hate trading good pitching. He's the same age as Verlander, and they could anchor our rotation as a 1-2 for years and years. To me, Granderson's value is high now. Sell high. Outfielders come easier than quality pitchers.
