My New Car - Round 1

I have noticed lately that almost every banner ad I see online is for a car. I have been visiting a lot of car websites and I swear that my internet is adapting my banner ads based on my website history. Does anyone know if this really happens?

So tonight I test drove my first car, the Nissan Sentra. The car handles very well - it has some revolutionary transmission so you can't feel it shift. I love the look of the Sentra - especially in black. The woman who was selling me the car couldn't have been too much older than me, if she even was. She wasn't the strongest salesperson, but I am relieved she wasn't the "I'm your buddy! You're awesome!" type. In the end, the numbers looked really good. I was looking for $275/mo and I can have that with a few hundred down. I would DEFINITELY love to have the car for that price. BUT, the Ford Fuckus (haha Mike) is tempting. I have seen really good deals for that as well and I can't pass up a cheaper offer if I end up liking it.t

So tomorrow is Round 2 - my chance to get behind the new Ford Focus. I feel really grown up - getting my first car. My goal is to have it done by Friday or Saturday.

Pontiac Grand Prix, 1998 - 2008 RIP

My car officially died yesterday, the sermon was held this morning at the Tuffy Auto Center. Donations can be made in its name to me.

Scratch that - it didn't actually die. It started yesterday morning on my way to work. I noticed it smoked under the hood a little at intersections. On the way home, it continued. Not the kind of thing you can easily ignore. When I took it in this morning, the death sentence was read: broken gasket, cost to replace: $650. So it's last two rides will be back to my apartment and to wherever I take it.

Of course, after I announce I am getting a new car, the current one decides to give out. Why couldn't it last two more weeks?? I feel really bad, but I am going to have to rely on rides from my boss and Stacey for this week and next.

Basketball

The Indiana game forced me to make up my mind about this MSU team. Besides Kalin Lucas, they have not developed one bit from the first game of the season. If anything, some players (Goran Suton, Travis Walton, and Raymar Morgan) are starting to regress.

I celebrated my mother's birthday on Saturday night and watched the game on TiVo when we were done. A few minutes into the second half, I turned the game off because I knew they lost. Even though Indiana was only up 13, with their best player out of the game, and Drew Neitzel playing decently well, how did I know they lost? They stink at road games (lost 9 of last 11 Big 10 road games - including Penn State and the stinker at Purdue) and because this team doesn't respond when it gets down. Granted, they pulled to within 1 against Purdue after a horrendous first half, but they didn't close it out.

Things I am sure we're all sick of seeing: horrible alley-oops, our centers outmuscled near the boards, Raymar Morgan's weak fouls, getting out hustled down the floor, bad shot selection early in the play clock, Marquise Gray not showing up, and the nights Drew Neitzel decides not to lead. I agree with Mike that this team on paper should be able to accomplish more. The last two games have made my mind up; they're not going to accomplish anything better than a Sweet 16 appearance. Their record is a product of their schedule. Before this week, they hadn't played at Purdue or at Ohio State and they hadn't played Wisconsin or Indiana. After this week, they will lose to Wisconsin, Indiana, and Ohio State. The Illinois game is a toss up. Why am I so aggravated and pessimistic? Because this team should be so much better. It's Neitzel's senior year, Raymar Morgan was starting to make a name for himself in the national spotlight, and our freshman were supposed to bring us great depth to compliment the depth we were supposed to have at center/forward.

One last thing I wanted to add about basketball. Dwight Howard should've won the Slam Dunk competition, BUT his "Superman" dunk was highly overrated. Jamario Moon did the same dunk first, except he made the mistake of setting the bar too high with his tape mark. Less showmanship, same dunk (except Moon didn't have to throw the ball in, he DUNKED his ball). Best dunk of the night: Howard's behind the backboard dunk or Green's birthday cupcake dunk.

Weirdest phrase actually heard last night: "The Atlanta Hawks keep their playoff drive alive by trading for Mike Bibby". They are in a playoff drive?! I checked on that today to see what that was about and realized, even though they are 7 games under .500, they still play in the Eastern Conference.

Miserable

Forbes 10 Most Miserable Cities:

1. Detroit
2. Stockton, CA
3. Flint
4. NYC
5. Philadelphia
6. Chicago
7. LA
8. Modesto, CA
9. Charlotte, NC
10. Providence, RI

I would disagree with the order. Flint is by far the worst city. I went there once. It makes its neighbor Saginaw look classy. I don't understand why being a big city makes it miserable (Philly, NYC, LA, Chicago). Sadly enough, Stacey has lived within 20 miles of 3 of the 10. I also am relieved Columbus isn't on there. Columbus really is a decent city, besides the whole Buckeye craze.

I Stink at Bleeding

Stacey got me started with donating blood last summer and it makes me feel good. Yesterday, I donated for the fourth time. Only 5% of the US population donates every year and only 30% of first time donators come back a second time. Plus someone needs blood every 3 seconds - a one pint donation can help 3 people. The one statistic I hate: 24 minutes. The length of time it took me yesterday to donate. The average is less than 10. When I was halfway through, they started another guy - it looked like he had his bag 1/2 full in 10 seconds. Guess who finished first. They couldn't get the needle into my vain properly, so they were moving it around. Guess how much fun that felt. Last night I felt really tired. I like doing something good, like donating, but I don't like discomfort.

I am very close to getting a new car. Actually I am going to lease one. I really want an Altima, but I am probably going to get the Altima's cheaper friend, the Sentra. I know I want a black car - I think they're so classy. Although any sporty car has to be red. I feel bad for totally copying off of my sister (who has a black Sentra). The plan is to get the car when my parents come to visit, which hopefully will be in March.

Did anyone else see Illinois fans riding Eric Gordon during their game vs. Indiana? I loved that they booed him EVERY time he held the ball.

I have had this song in my head for two days. I am trying to combat it by listening to this over and over again. Watch it and answer me this, how old is Alice supposed to be?

Apparently, the answer is 7 years old. I don't see it.
