Detroit Lions primed to contend
The latest rumor is that the NFL is preparing to have an 8 game season in the likelihood that they aren't able to reach an agreement before the season starts.
Debate:
If the Lions were to win the Super Bowl after a shortened regular season, would people respect the victory as much as previous championship teams or would the shortened season diminish their accomplishment in the minds of writers and fans in general?

I'll say accept. Most people recognize shortened-season champions. The NBA had a 50-game season after their last lockout (close to half a season, like the proposed NFL schedule) and I never hear talk of discrediting the Spurs for their championship that year. As long as the playoffs don't get shortened, I think people will call the champ, champ.
Honestly though, I'd rather them just cancel the season rather than watch an 8-game schedule. Just doesn't seem fulfilling enough. Don't tease me with just part of a season. Especially if the Lions finally start to do well!
I think it would diminish the accomplishment a little bit in the short-term. But after a few years, no one would care.
Like Mike said, as long as the playoffs are full-length, people will accept the Super Bowl winner as legit.
As for me, I'll take a Super Bowl any way I can get one. But I think I would prefer a cancelled season to a 8-game season as well.
